Exmouth Motor Club members win first Expert at SHMC Primrose Rally 2020

South Hams Motor Club Primrose Rally 2020 as held on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th February during Storm Ciara; although it was a tough night for all teams involved Exmouth Motor Clubs' very own Luke Quinnell and Kayleigh Dingle walked away with 1st Expert. Fantastic result for the pair of them. Kayleigh Dingle has kindly given a review on the event. Read about it below:

On Sat 8th/Sun 9th Feb 2020 we started out on the Primrose Rally organised by South Hams Motor Club. 35 cars entered with only a few dropping out before the start. Starting & finishing at The Passage House Hotel. Between Documentation & Briefing we had our 1st Section of route to plot up until petrol. We then waited for our second lot of route to be given at MTC0 which we plotted well with no issues luckily. All our Plots where grid references with tulips which made for a easy night luckily. Once we had finished plotting we all started to make our way to MTC1, to line up in order to start. Whilst be waited I got myself organised. 3 maps ready with the changes numbered & the many NAM (Not As Map) diagrams ready to view as we approached them. The NAM's contained long way round triangles & sections in the forests which had inlets/whites which contained code boards to get. The event was 140+ miles so we set out steady, venturing via Ashburton to Denburn, and onto TC6 which was a little road which looked like a driveway before a crossroads to get the correct approach. We went to Ipplepen, Abbotskerswell, Maldon, Little Hampton and onto petrol at Bovey Straights petrol station, which was a nice little break halfway to see how every ones night was panning out; but most crews were still battling away! After fuel we had no clue how we were doing but decided now was the time to pick up the pace after a few mistakes from both sides of the Chudleigh Knighton, Moretonhampstead, Marldon and down into Pepperdon Area which had this complicated bit where the road we wanted took a few crews a couple attempts to find but once you had we were driving down this very slippery steep downhill section of road. We then went via Bridford, Dunchideock, Haldon Forest, Trusham, Great Haldon, Kennford, Kenn, Kenton, Little Haldon and then onto Kingsteignhton and back to the hotel to hand our cards in. The venue boasted a great all you can eat breakfast to chat about the night with others while we waited for results. The weather was very wet & windy out that we were lucky to still have time cards left in one piece. Very chuffed to come away with a unexpected 3rd overall and 1st in class! Very happy to see we were fastest in the last sector of the night. Thankful for all the marshals that stood out all night for us & a fantastic event organised - Luke Quinnell & Kayleigh Dingle (Car 17)
